Padel Shed Charity Smash

Join us on Saturday, 9th May, for a premier Padel event dedicated to four extraordinary causes. The competition commences at 12:00 PM with the Ladies Championship, followed by the Mixed / For Fun cohort at 2:45 PM, and the high-stakes Intermediate/Advanced tournament at 5:30 PM. Each session features a fast-paced "Total Games" format culminating in a Grand Final on the Court 1 Show Court, before we transition into Padel After Dark at 9:00 PM—a high-energy social session featuring courtside DJs, and professional hospitality.

Every serve and smash directly supports a vital mission, with all proceeds divided between Destination Florida, Freddie’s Sunshine, The Toy Appeal, and The Kirkwood. From providing life-changing trips for children with life-limiting conditions and sanctuary for bereaved families, to ensuring every child experiences the magic of Christmas and providing world-class palliative care, your participation brings hope and essential support to those in their most challenging moments. Play with passion; play for a purpose.

The Charities We Are Supporting

https://www.destinationflorida.org.uk/

The first Destination Florida trip took place in 1988 with 25 children, made possible by founders Dr David Evans and Nurse Alex Shaw, with the support of British Airways ground staff.

Becoming a registered charity in 1991, Destination Florida aims to provide a once-in-a-lifetime holiday experience for children with life-limiting conditions from the North of England.

Each trip, supported by at least 110 adults, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and non-medical carers, provides an incredible eight-day opportunity for 72 children to visit Florida’s premier theme parks. From the thrilling Animal Kingdom to the enchanting Magic Kingdom, alongside the adventure-filled Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, these trips create unforgettable experiences for the children.

Beyond the thrill of the theme parks, the remarkable children enjoy a pool party, retail shopping therapy, a Cirque de Soleil show, and a last night party.

Destination Florida was granted the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2020, and has enabled 1,600 children to attend one of their life-changing trips.

Freddie’s Sunshine was set up in memory of Freddie George Beaumont, an absolute sunshine of a child who passed away very suddenly on 22nd November 2022, just 3 weeks after his 1st birthday, whilst his mummy Aimee was trying desperately to give him CPR. It turns out that Freddie had Strep A and an Empyema on his lung.

His death was a huge shock to his parents, Aimee & Mark, bringing their world crashing down.

Although supported by an NHS bereavement team on the days following Freddie's passing, Aimee and Mark felt completely lost having to leave the hospital without their precious little boy and having to accept a new life without him. It became clear to them that there needed to be a place for families to experience their grief with other people who understand. From their idea, Freddie’s Sunshine came to life.

Freddie’s Sunshine aims to provide respite space for families following the bereavement of a child. They are a sanctuary where families can remember their loved one in peace, meet other people going through the tragic loss of a child, and get support from people who understand their pain.

The Toy Appeal, registered charity number 1179080, has been running since 2013, making Christmas Day very special for thousands of children across the North-West of England. Social workers, schools, women’s refuges, food banks and drop-in centres can refer a child or family to The Toy Appeal to ensure that they have presents to open on Christmas morning. Believing that every child deserves to experience the magic of Christmas, The Toy Appeal steps in to help Father Christmas do this for thousands of children, aged 2 - 17 years old, every year, providing toy sacks to children, regardless of race, religion and gender.

The Kirkwood, We all need support. And that’s why we are built upon it. From the support of our donors and the public. To the support we provide patients and their families. Support is what keeps our communities thriving and our people smiling. What gives us hope, and gives us the strength. To face tomorrow by forever embracing today. Our support may have begun as a hospice nearly four decades ago, but today we are movement. A thriving, vibrant and vital community dedicated to the care and support of all of those affected by a life-limiting illness. This isn’t just who we are. It’s what we do. Each and every day, for every person right across Kirklees. The Kirkwood Support Life.

Our services are extensive, from Dr’s, Specialist Palliative Nurses, Physio’s, Social Workers, Dementia Nurses, Counsellors, our facilities include a 16 Bed In Patient Unit, to a 24/7 advice line.  With less than one third funding, it is only because of the support from the community we can deliver the support and services we do.  This means no one in Kirklees, following their life limiting illness diagnosis is alone.
